WW1 Commemoration 2014

Despite the cool weather many local people turned out for the WW1 Commemoration Day on Saturday 3rd May, which also marked the first day of the 2014 season in the Museum. The event recreated many aspects of life in 1914 including the Living History Group from Stradbroke showing life in the soldiers' camp, Stradbroke High School Brass Band playing contemporary music, and an exhibition by the Museum and Stradbroke students. The afternoon ended with a talk by Vice Admiral Sir Jeremy Blackham, songs composed and performed by students, a musical sequence in words and music, followed by a procession to the War Memorial. Representatives from all the local parishes laid wreaths to mark the tragic deaths of 148 local men in the First World War. £800 was raised for the Royal British Legion.

The Museum's thanks go to all who contributed and took part and made this event a fitting tribute to the local men, women and children, who suffered the horrors of WW1.
